Metro State Softball Has High Hopes for Vegas Tournament

This weekend, the Metro State Softball team will head to Las Vegas to play in the Desert Stinger Tournament. The Desert Stinger Tournament is a NCAA Division II softball tournament hosted by Montana State University Billings. The Roadrunners played in the tournament last season. These will be the last games the Runners will play before the start of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play begins.

The Runners will play Western Oregon University and West Texas A&M University on Friday, Feb. 8. On Feb. 9, Metro will play Azusa Pacific University and MSU Billings. The Runners will end the tournament Sunday, Feb. 10 against Central Washington University.

Sophomore shortstop Susie Oury said on the Coach Lansford show that even though the team didn’t do well last season, she’s hopeful that the team will do better this season.

“I think we have a lot of potential to go out there and get a few wins,” Oury said.

Senior pitcher and utility player Aubree Maul, who was named RMAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 5 will miss the rest of the season with an undisclosed injury.
