Eric Pacheco, also known by the stage name EmpError, is a producer and performer from Denver, Colorado. He started producing hip-hop instrumentals at the age of 15 and started performing at the age of 16. Experimenting with various types of hip-hop, EDM and pop, he has featured multiple artists on his songs and produced for artists including City, Sami Lee, and MC Jin (former member of the Ruff Ryders). He’ has performed at local venues across Colorado such as Hodi’s Half Note in Fort Collins and Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom in Denver. Pacheco is currently studying Music & Recording Arts at the University of Colorado Denver. He hopes to increase his knowledge of being a recording engineer so he can continue his dreams of becoming a music producer and songwriter. On Sunday April 28, the Metro State softball team looked to finish out the 2013 season strong as it was Senior Day and the Runners honored seniors pitcher Brittany Moss and second baseman Annalyse Garcia.

Game 1

Metro sent out junior pitcher Monique Hernandez for this game. The Runners got the scoring going in the first after sophomore shortstop Suzie Oury scored on an RBI groundout by junior catcher Kelsey Tillery.

The Roadrunners then exploded for five runs in the bottom of the second including a home run by Tillery to give them a 6-0 lead. BHSU defense helped as they committed an error that led to four runs for Metro.

The Jackets came back with two runs in the third inning.

Metro got three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and got another run in the fifth to get the mercy rule and win the game 10-2.

“It was a really good game. We got to execute a lot of things,” head coach Kristi Lansford said. “We had a really good game. Offensively we did a great job to do what we needed to do to get the win.”

Metro looked a lot better defensively than they did the day before. BHSU however committed seven errors in this game.

Hernandez finished the game with 5 innings pitched, giving up seven hits, two runs as both were earned, and a strikeout.

“She did a great job. There were a couple times out there, we thought she was going to have a three pitch inning,” Lansford said.

Game 2

In between games, Metro had their senior day ceremony to honor Moss and Garcia. The Runners sent out Moss for this game, her final start in her college career.

The Runners got the scoring going in the first as Tillery hit a solo home run, her fifth home run of the season, to give them a 1-0 lead. The Roadrunners then got another run after a sacrifice fly by Tillery scored Oury to make it 2-0 Metro.

BHSU then got two runs in the third to tie it up at two. The Runners would then come back and answer with four more runs in the bottom of the third including a home run by sophomore outfielder MaryTowner. It was her ninth home run of the season. Towner would have had a two homer day but was robbed of a home run in her first at bat.

Senior day would then see Garcia go behind the plate to catch Moss in the fourth inning.

“(Garcia) wanted to catch. She wanted to catch one inning,” Lansford said. “She did a really good job back there. So, I let her do that.”

The Yellow Jackets would get two more runs in the seventh but that would be it as the Runners went onto win this game 6-4 and sweep senior day.

“We played good defense today. We executed a lot,” Lansford said. “We took advantage of mistakes that (BHSU) made. I’m really proud of them.

Moss finished the day going 7 innings, giving up 9 hits, four runs that were all earned, three walks and five strikeouts.

“I felt strong. I felt confident,” Moss said. “I felt great and relax. I went out and pitch like it was my last game.”

Metro finished the season on a winning note especially saying good bye to two great seniors.

“It’s going to be really hard. They’re both really big parts of the program,” Lansford said. “I’m just happy for (Moss) that she got the win and she was able to stay in and get that win. She proved to be pretty tough today. I have so much respect for her and all the things she’s trying to do in her life. (Garcia) has been really steady player. I’m going to miss her a lot.”

I asked Moss and Garcia their most memorable moments in their time with Metro.

“I would have to say [my most memorable moment] taking third in the [2010 college world] series,” Moss said. “I pitched a game and not a lot of pitchers can say that they’ve gone to a world series let alone pitch an inning in it. I’ll always remember that.”

“I’ve got to say my sophomore year when we had to play (Colorado State University-Pueblo) and I hit a walk off home run to beat them,” Garcia said. “That’s probably it right there.”

Garcia played for the Thunderwolves in her freshman year before transferring to Metro.

Metro finished on a strong, winning note to end the season.

“I’m really happy we went out on three wins,” Lansford said. “I think we played well. We cleaned up a lot of things from yesterday and we did a great job.”

The Runners finish the 2013 season 17-28 overall and 10-23 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

On Saturday April 27, the Metro State softball team looked to start their final weekend of the 2013 season in winning fashion when they took on Black Hills State University. The game was for the T.E.A.L. Foundation as the Runners honored senior Aubree Maul and her battle with cancer.

Game 1

The Roadrunners sent out junior pitcher Monique Hernandez for this game. Metro got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after sophomore shortstop Suzie Oury scored on a double steal that saw sophomore first baseman Chelsea Brew get caught stealing second as the third out of the inning but the run counted.

The Jackets then scored a run in the second inning to tie the game and then got two more runs in the third inning after a home run by leftfielder Alex Huntington. Metro came back and tied the game in the bottom of the third with two runs.

The Runners then got three more runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-3 lead. BHSU then came back and tied it up at 6 in the fifth inning. In the sixth, the Yellow Jackets exploded for six runs as the Metro defense had a few lapses that allowed Black Hills State to get runs. BHSU would then get two more runs in the seventh as the Roadrunners had trouble defensively and with their pitching as the Jackets went onto win the game 14-6.

Hernandez finished the game with 5 and 2/3 innings pitched, giving up 12 hits, 11 runs with 6 of those runs earned, two walks, and two strikeouts.

“I think she held tough. She’s either the kind of pitcher that you’re either going to hit or not,” head coach Kristi Lansford said. “She had some really good innings. (BHSU) just hit her pretty hard.”

The Runners finished the game with four errors.

“We made too many errors and gave up too many home runs. That’s the bottom line,” Lansford said. “We’ve actually been pretty steady defensively.”

Huntington finished 4 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs, while BHSU shortstop Katie Campo finished 3 for 5 with four RBIs in the game. The Jackets would go onto hit three home runs in this game including Huntington’s.

Game 2

The Runners sent out senior pitcher Brittany Moss for this game. Metro got the scoring going in the first inning with a run after Oury scored a double play ball hit by junior catcher Kelsey Tillery.

BHSU tied it up in the third inning with a run. The Jackets then got two more runs in the fourth inning. Metro however came back in the bottom of the fourth as sophomore outfielder Mary Towner homered and then after an out, the Runners exploded with four straight hits and four more runs scored as they took a 6-3 lead.

BHSU scored one more run in the seventh inning but that was it as Moss threw the ball very well as Metro went onto win this game 6-4. Defensively, the Runners had a tougher time as they had six errors in this game, two each by Oury and sophomore third baseman Amanda Taney.

“It wasn’t pretty but they managed to hang on and get the win,” Lansford said.

Moss finished this game with 7 innings pitched, giving up seven hits, four runs with two of them earned, a walk and a strikeout.

“She threw a much better game than the score indicated,” Lansford said. “She threw really, really well.”

Taney and Oury finished the game with two hits each and junior outfielder Dani Sandel and Tillery each had two RBIs in this game.
