Airing Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, THE DAILY MET is the one stop for Metro and Auraria students to get caught up on the biggest news headlines around the city and on campus. We play songs that students want to hear, not tired Top 40 replays. Request music and interact with show hosts by calling in to the studio at 303-352-7029, or by logging onto Facebook and voting for the DAILYMET song of the day. Music, News, and Entertainment for students.
Justin & Colton’s NFL week 13 picks
November 30th, 2011Its been awhile but we’re back at it for the next two weeks. The semester will conclude on December 18th and we need to enlighten the masses with our deep analysis for this upcoming playoff stretch. No guest pickers; just two geeks with a relentless passion for reserving Sundays as a “me day”.
Simulations and Analysis Confirm Identical Results:
Panthers win the battle of the bad defenses over the Bucs because they have the better offense.
The Falcons have too many weapons for the Schaubless/Leinartless Texans. The over/under for Jake Delhomme interceptions to the house is probably 1.5. I’ll take the over.
Jets are holding on to their playoff hopes after their fourth quarter rally against the Bills last week and should be able to ride the momentum with a win over the Redskins.
The Bears dropped some interceptions last week against the Raiders. They will not be as generous to Kyle Orton in his first start as a Chief.
The Browns have been competitive in every game but one this season. The Ravens will get more of a game than people expect but they will pull it out.
Von Miller and the Broncos defense will give Christian Ponder his worst game of the year. Tim Tebow will continue his gradual improvement against a bad pass defense.
The Cowboys have not beat one impressive team in this win streak and that will not change this week versus the Cards.
Niners will be crowned ruler of the putrid NFC West after they beat up on the Rams.
Pats and Colts have been moved from the Sunday night game slot because the Colts are going to get thrashed. The game should probably just be removed from the schedule completely.
Inconclusive Results: Further Testing Needed
Philadelphia @ Seattle- The Eagles are still the better team…On Paper. Not sure if they will collapse on Andy Reid but I doubt it. The Seahawks NEED turnovers and a strong performance from Marshawn Lynch. I don’t see it happening. Colton Does.
Oakland @ Miami- Raiders are in a trap week. I like them beating the Dolphins but they cannot overlook the Fins in anticipation of playing the Packers in week 14. Colton thinks they are going to fall in the trap.
Tennessee @ Buffalo- Chris Johnson gave Colton hope that the Titans are not disappearing from the AFC South Race. Stevie Johnson’s end-zone taunt is overshadowing his play against Darrelle Revis last week. Colton likes the Titans but I’m rolling with the Bills.
Green Bay @ NY Giants- The Giants win these types of games. They are heavy underdogs going up against the champs. Historically, they are good for messing up a perfect season. They did it to the 98 Broncos in week 15, they did it to the 2007 Patriots in the Super Bowl XLII and Colton is picking the G-men to do it again. I am picking the Packers to continue their perfect season.
San Diego @ Jacksonville- The Chargers and Norv Turner are just about cooked but they will fight through this one. Jacksonville just had a tough week with the firing of head coach Jack Del-Rio and the selling of the team. I’m hesitantly picking the Bolts but Colton likes the Jags to rally behind interim head coach, Mel Tucker

October 27th, 2011The Night Metro State Mattered
October 24th, 2011By Daniel Laverty
The Metro men’s soccer team beat No.23 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers 3-0 Oct 21 in Golden. It was the second time these two teams matched up this season, with the Roadrunners beating the Orediggers in a 2-1 overtime thriller Sept.25 at Auraria Field.
Even with the cold temperature, the atmosphere was lively in Golden. With Mines and Metro’s volleyball teams playing against each other at the same time on the same campus, the game seemed more intense than just a regular match up between these to RMAC rivals.
Metro enjoyed goals from Scott Grode, Andrew Mejia and T.J. Thiebaut. Grode’s goal was his 14th of the season.
Metro either matches up extremely well with Mines, or the Roadrunners just show up to play their best soccer against the Orediggers.
These teams flat-out do not like each other. Though both teams play hard and with proper etiquette, there is a lot of pushing, shoving and yelling. And it’s not just on the field, in both games, the Oredigger’s bench has received a yellow card for constant criticism of officiating.
Until this season, Mines had recently dominated the rivalry. That’s not the case these days. In both match-ups, Metro’s defense completely eliminated Mines’ star-forward Tesho Akindele. It’s almost as if Akindele, who’s second in the RMAC in goals and assists, wasn’t even playing.
When Metro lost two time RMAC Player of the Year Steven Emory to graduation, many thought that the team would be irrelevant in the RMAC. Apparently, no one told this to head coach Ken Parsons and his team.
This team is scary. Metro boasts the RMAC’s leading goal scorer in Grode, can get goals from multiple players in different situations and has incredible depth at the goalkeeper position.
What’s been most impressive about this team is the play in the backfield. Metro’s defense, led by Dele Johnson, drives teams crazy. Their ability to shut down the offensive hopes of opponents is a pleasure to watch. Remember Akindele? The Roadrunner defense has held him to only two shots on goal in their two match-ups.
So what will this dominant regular season bring Metro? Just a decent seeding in the RMAC tournament. That’s when the real season begins, and regular season successes are soon forgotten.
After the men’s 3-0 shutout win, Metro’s volleyball team pulled off an incredible, down two-sets, victory against the Lady Orediggers. For a cold night in October, all was well for Roadrunner Nation.
